Barnett suspended for opening round NCAA Tournament game

Jordan Barnett is suspended for the Tigers opening round NCAA Tournament game on Friday. Mizzou basketball coach Cuonzo Martin said the senior can travel and practice with the team this week. If MU makes it to the second round, Coach Martin said Barnett could be available to play.

No. 8 Mizzou will play No. 9 Florida State on Friday at approximately 8:50 p.m. in Nashville, Tennessee. The winner of that game will likely play No. 1 Xavier on Sunday.

MUPD arrested Barnett on Sunday at 3:26 a.m. on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Officers did not take Barnett to jail and released him following his signature promising to appear in court according to a public information officer with MUPD. There was no bond, and Barnett will appear in municipal court.

According to Mizzou’s student-athlete handbook, any athlete arrested for driving under the influence will be suspended from team activities for at least one week for a first offense. This is Barnett’s first offense.

The senior forward is in his second season with Mizzou after transferring from Texas in 2016. Barnett is second on the team in scoring this year and averages 13.7 points per game along with 5.9 rebounds per game.
