Ex-husband of governor’s mistress testifies for legislative committee

A key witness in the criminal case against Governor Eric Greitens testified Friday in front of the legislative committee tasked with investigating alleged blackmail accusations.

The ex-husband of the governor’s former mistress traveled to Jefferson City and spoke with legislators around 3:30 p.m.

His attorney, St. Louis-based Albert Watkins, said his client didn’t get a subpoena and was appearing willingly before the committee.

“My client stated publicly beforehand that he was going to be continuing his full cooperation with state, local, and federal law enforcement authorities, [as well as] prosecutors,” said Watkins. “He will continue to do so.”

The man recorded his then-wife discussing her 2015 affair with Greitens. She said in the recording that Greitens took a nude photo of her without her consent.

Watkins didn’t know specifically what the man would testify to but assumed he’d discuss the recording and information he got, as well as the timeline of when he got it.

The recordings have been turned over, Watkins said, but he didn’t have knowledge of who might have the alleged photo.

It’s not clear if the governor’s former mistress will testify for the committee.
