Boone County officials scheduled to host training on threats towards houses of worship

Boone County Office of Emergency Management officials will host a training event about the current threats and past incidents at houses of worship and faith-based events.

A spokesperson for the event said the training is designed for church officials and those responsible for site security and safety at houses of worship as well as law enforcement.

Officials will provide recommendations to enhance security measures and provide techniques to aid in preventing further incidents.

Sherril Gladney, a planning and preparedness specialist said this training is “something houses of worship and faith community leaders have requested in an effort to provide for the well being of the faith community.”

There will be two opportunities to take the free training, the first is scheduled for March 10 at Little Bonne Femme Baptist Church at 10 a.m. The second session will be held on March 20 at First Presbyterian Church on Hitt Street at 7 p.m.

Officials said there is no registration required but seating is limited.

“Hosting this training not only ensures high quality training in our community, but also allows for members of the faith based community to come together and build relationships, share ideas and work together,” said Gladney.
