Attorney for former husband of Greitens’ mistress addresses inappropriate comments
The attorney representing the former husband of Gov. Eric Greitens’ mistress held a press conference at the Jefferson City Police Department Friday afternoon.
Attorney Albert Watkins discussed reports about the alleged demonizing of the former witness and other witnesses, as well as racially insensitive comments made about St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner, who brought about the indictment.
“That’s part of this pattern and practice designed to malign, belittle, berate, and intimidate,” said Watkins. “It’s got to end.”
ABC 17 previously reported that Greitens’ lawyers said the witnesses in the case did not pursue criminal charges and were initially uncooperative with the media. The witnesses were also accused of being reluctant to fully participate in circuit attorney Kim Gardner’s investigation.
Watkins said that undermines Gardner’s work.
The governor has lashed out at Gardner on social media, calling her a “reckless liberal prosecutor who uses her office to score points.”
Greitens was recently indicted on suspicion of invasion of privacy after he allegedly took partially nude pictures of a woman he was having an affair with without her consent.
