Police arrest man accused of hitting two-year-old, leaving knives out

UPDATE 3/6: Huff was charged with abuse or neglect of a child.

According to the probable cause statement, the two-year-old child has a shunt in his head, so a head injury to the boy can be more serious that it is for most kids.

Huff claimed he never hit the child but did admit to leaving the children alone for five hours while he slept.

ORIGINAL STORY:Columbia police arrested Stephen Huff on Sunday night after officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of Hickam Drive in reference to child abuse.

Police said a two-year-old boy had returned home with a mark on his face after being at Huff’s residence. The mark appeared to be a red bruise consistent with a hand print.

The two-year-old had reportedly said that Huff hit him.

Officers said they responded to Huff’s residence and found kitchen knives on the counter of a room the children were playing in.

Huff faces possible charges of abuse of a child and endangering the welfare of a child.
