Maries County deputies arrest man after high speed chase

Maries County deputies arrested Richard Carbaugh, 50, on Friday after a high speed chase on Highway H.

Deputies said they initially saw a Chevrolet pickup fail to maintain lanes and then proceeded to make an unsafe pass on a hill.

Officers attempted to make a traffic stop with the driver, Carbaugh, but he failed to yield. Carbaugh was accused of exceeding speeds of 100 mph.

Deputies said Carbaugh eventually lost control of his truck and crashed. He fled from the vehicle and was quickly apprehended.

Officers searched the truck and found 26 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a glass pipe, and cash exceeding $2,100.

Carbaugh faces possible charges of resisting arrest and resisting a lawful stop. He is currently being held in the Maries County Jail on a no bond warrant.

Deputies said Carbaugh has 26 felony convictions and has been in prison for most of his adult life. “Carbough is a career criminal who continues to resist arrest, sell drugs, and put the public in danger.”
