Boone County house fire leaves multiple rooms destroyed

A fire that started late Friday night has left one home on West Chapel Drive in Boone County with over $200,000 worth of damage.

According to Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp with the Boone County Fire Protection District, the fire was reported around 11:45 p.m. Friday after a 9-year-old woke up to the smell of smoke inside the house.

Six individuals in the home at the time, and all made it out safely. Multiple rooms were destroyed, causing about $225,000 worth of damage, but the home is not a total loss.

The fire reportedly started outside of the house, and the cause does not appear to be suspicious at this time, Blomenkamp said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
