Missouri attorney general to officially file for U.S. Senate primary race

Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley, who was just elected into office in 2016, will announce he is officially filing to run for the U.S. Senate, according to a press release.

Filing for all candidates opens at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the James C. Kirkpatrick Information Center. Hawley will hold a news conference after he files at 1 p.m. at the center.

According to the Federal Election Commission website, Hawley will be running against fiver other Republicans in the primary.

The U.S. Senate seat is currently held by Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, who will be running for a third term.

According to the FEC, McCaskill is ahead of the other nine candidates, including Hawley, in total amount of donations. McCaskill has more than $13 million in donations, while Hawley has $1.7 million.
