Chancellor Cartwright announces new initiatives, reflects on University’s contributions

UPDATE 10:40 am: Cartwright announced an institutional plan to decrease funding gaps between MU and its AAU peer institutions. His goal is to double MU’s funding from federal sources, industry and foundations over the next five years.

It was announced that the new Translational Precision Medicine Complex will help MU emerge as a global leader in biomedical research and maximize opportunities for external grant funding.

Cartwright said Translational medicine offers the promise of scientific advancements that are developed into new drugs, devices and treatments that improve health and well-being.

Cartwright also announced other initiatives that will be implemented including an Artist in Residence Program, Mizzou Innovates Program, National Research Centers and Double NIH and Industry Sponsored Clinical Trials Funding.

ORIGINAL STORY: Chancellor Alexander Cartwright will be hosting a reflection on Mizzou’s many important contributions to Missouri and the world on Tuesday morning.

The event will be held at the Monsanto Auditorium, the Bond Life Sciences Center at 10 a.m.

Cartwright will also be announcing new initiatives designed to boost research and creative activities on campus.

University officials said researchers bring in more $200 million in outside funding to Missouri every year.
