Localized flooding likely into the weekend
FRIDAY: It’s a quiet, cloudy, and cool Friday across the region. The wet period that has been in place for the past several days quiets down this afternoon, but only briefly. Afternoon highs will top out in the mid to upper 40s, with winds out of the west up to 10 mph. Some areas of drizzle can’t be ruled out, but overall we’ll remain dry as we head into the early evening hours.
TONIGHT: Another round of wet weather tracks into Mid-Missouri through the night, with the potential for localized flooding. The heaviest rain axis will exist near Interstate 44, where the a flood watch is in effect through Saturday night. The rain with some embedded storms will build into Mid-Missouri through the night and lift to the northeast. Temperatures will stay above freezing for most of the region, which will limit us with just a cold rain. There is a chance of freezing rain briefly by the morning for areas north of HWY 24 in northern Missouri as temperatures drop towards freezing.
EXTENDED: Rain moves out Saturday morning with another round of showers and possible t-storms Saturday afternoon, ending by 9 PM. Temperatures will reach the lower 50s Saturday but will fall to near 30 overnight as colder, drier air moves in. Rainfall amounts from Friday night through Saturday night will range from a half in in our northwestern counties to an inch and a half near I-44. Sunday looks dry and mild with highs in the low 50s. We’ll start warming again early next week with highs reaching the low 60s by Tuesday. Rain moves in Tuesday night into Wednesday along with cooler air which arrives for the start of March.
