Hickman names Cedric Alvis head football coach

Hickman high school announced Cedric Alvis as the new head football coach for the Kewpies.

The hiring comes after previous head coach Trevor Rubly resigned after one season as the coach of the Kewpies. The Kewpies finished 1-8 last season.

Alvis graduated from Hickman in 2005, played football and ran track for the Kewpies. He was a three-time all-district selection and two-time all-state selection in football. He also helped lead the Kewpies to a state title in his senior season.

In college, Alvis played for Missouri State before returning to coach in Columbia as a volunteer at Rock Bridge. He later joined the Hickman coaching staff in 2011 to coach wide receivers and defensive backs under Arnel Monroe.

Alvis joined the Battle Spartans as the defensive coordinator and helped lead the Spartans to a state title in 2014.

Hickman will hold a meet and greet with Alvis Feb. 27 at 6:15 p.m. at Hickman high school.
