Wintry weather Wednesday night

TONIGHT: It will be a cold night across Mid-Missouri as temperatures hover near 30 degrees with freezing rain and sleet building into the area. The onset of precipitation should start as sleet, before changing over to freezing rain as we head into the late evening hours. Areas along I-44 will see some freezing rain and sleet starting as early as 7 PM but it will hold off until after midnight for most areas. Initially, the precipitation will be spotty and light before midnight but will increase after midnight with most ice accumulation from 2-7 AM. Areas near I-44 and west of HWY 63 should see the greatest ice accumulation with a glaze up to .15″. Other areas can expect less than a tenth inch of ice.

THURSDAY: Freezing rain is still possible north of I-70 in the early morning but will end by mid-morning. Temperatures will reach the lower 40s in the afternoon with easterly winds up to 10 mph with mostly cloudy skies. Spotty showers are possible by late afternoon but will be more likely overnight.

EXTENDED: Temperatures will stay above freezing Thursday night, in the mid to upper 30s with rain showers moving through, ending by 8 AM Friday. Temperatures will climb into the lower 50s in the afternoon under mostly cloudy skies. Another round of rain moves in Friday night with on and off rain Saturday as temperatures stay above freezing, reaching the upper 50s Saturday afternoon. Sunday looks dry and mild with highs in the mid 50s. Next work week will start off dry and mild with highs remaining in the 50s.
