Woman charged with multiple counts of forgery after multi-county crime spree

A woman has been charged with multiple counts of forgery and fraudulent use of a credit card after she was accused of cashing multiple bad checks.

According to one probable cause statement, a victim noticed that her purse had been stolen from her car in Osage Beach. Her credit card company alerted her there was suspicious activity on her card and realized someone had been trying to make hundreds of dollars worth of transactions.

The victim also told police that two checks were stolen and written out for transactions worth more than a thousand dollars. Officers later determined Kayla Ann Jones was the suspect.

Days later, Jones was connected to a hit and run with a Cole County deputy’s patrol vehicle. She was also connected to a forgery case in Jefferson City where someone had broken into a judge’s vehicle and stole id’s, credit cards and a gun.

Officers said Jones was a “threat to society due to having stolen two guns that we know of.”

Another victim reported that someone had stolen his rent check and was able to cash it. Jefferson City police were able to identify the suspect as Jones.

Jones was also accused of giving a bank a false identity so she could cash in a check worth more than $2,000. Law enforcement later determined it was Jones.

According to one probable cause statement, Jones has an extensive criminal history which charges ranging from endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful use of a weapon.

Jones is currently in the Cole County Jail.
