Moberly police investigate multiple fraudulent credit card transactions

UPDATE 2/14: Moberly police officers are asking residents to take these steps when reporting the credit/debit fraud:

Contact your bank and inform them of the fraud Cancel your credit/debit card

Complete all the proper paper work with your bank for the fraudulent transaction before contacting your local department.

Confirm if the bank is going to refund the amount which was fraudulently charged. This is needed by the officer to determine who is the victim of the loss, the bank or the individual.

Bring copies of the paper work you filled out at the bank to the police department.

Bring copies of your bank statement which shows the date, time and location of the fraudulent transaction to the police department.

Tell police the credit/debit card number which was used fraudulently

Bring officers your driver’s license.

ORIGINAL STORY: Moberly police are investigating numerous fraudulent credit card transactions that were reported to area banks.

Police said the credit card numbers were obtained and are being used around the state. Many of the transactions were reported in late December through late January.

Residents are being asked to monitor their credit and debit transactions closely for unauthorized transactions.

Anyone with information about the incidents are asked to call the police department, their local law enforcement agency or the Randolph County TIPS hotline at (660) 269-8477.

Police said the investigation is in its preliminary stages.
