Residential, neighborhood roads to be slick during Monday morning commute

The sun and above-freezing temperatures Monday will assist in melting off much of the residual icing from the winter weather over the weekend, according to ABC 17 News stormtrack meteorologist Brigit Mahoney. But people might see slick roads in their neighborhoods before the sunlight takes affect.

ABC 17 News crews drove different types of roads Monday morning, and they noticed roads in neighborhoods and subdivisions had several areas covered in ice. Main roadways, such as I-70, Highway 63, Worley Street and Broadway were fairly clear of ice, with the exception of medians, turn lanes and bicycle lanes.

Columbia Public Works crews said they were going to treat residential neighborhoods as much as they could Sunday night, but warned drivers those areas may still be icy Monday morning.

Road crews urged drivers to use caution Monday morning because there might be black ice, even on treated roads.
