Cold start to the week, but a flip in the weather pattern will arrive shortly

MONDAY: Expect abundant sunshine all day long, but don’t let that fool you as temperatures remain cool throughout the day. Highs today will see improvements from this weekend, but will still be below average in the upper 30s. The sun and above freezing temperatures will assist in melting off much of the ice we received this weekend. Winds out of the northeast up to 10 mph will make it feel below freezing all day long.

TONIGHT: Expect some passing clouds tonight accompanied by very cold temperatures as lows drop back towards 20. An east wind from 7-13 mph will create for wind chills in the single digits by tomorrow morning.

EXTENDED: From Tuesday through Thursday, temperatures will climb into the 40s, the upper 50s, and even breaking into the 60s as winds return back around out of the south. Wednesday and Thursday will be the warmest days as winds are breezy ahead of our weather maker, with gusts as high as 30 mph. By Thursday another cold front will track through the region. This will lead to falling temperatures through the day, with the chance for some rain showers. Spotty showers are possible in the morning, but become more likely by the afternoon. Areas closer to I-44 looks to receive a little bit more rainfall, with some areas receiving up to .50″. However, due to the progressive nature of the frontal boundary and upper level support, little moisture will be present with this system so most areas look to see less than .25″. Friday will be colder behind the front with high temperatures back in the 30s. Luckily, the drop in temperatures will be brief as next weekend highs will rise back in the 40s and 50s under partly cloudy skies.
