UPDATE: Repairs made to Moberly water main, boil advisory lifted

UPDATE 2/9: The water main pipe has been permanently repaired as of Friday. Bacteria samples are expected to be in by 9:00 p.m. this evening.

The city released the following press release at 9:02 p.m.:

The City of Moberly’s Public Utilities Director, Mary West-Calcagno just announced that the water customers in the City of Moberly are no longer advised to boil their water before drinking. Customers may resume all normal uses of the water; conservation measures are no longer necessary.

“We will continue to flush the system over the next week or so, to make sure disinfectant residuals are remaining consistent at all points in our distribution system. We will continue to utilize chlorine as the disinfectant until further notice.”

The permanent repair on the 14″ water main on Sturgeon Street was completed today at approximately 1:00 pm. Clean up activities at the site will continue on Monday.

“We thank the community for their understanding and support as we worked to restore service to our customers. We understand that this has been a disruption in the daily lives of many people and the industries and businesses in our community, as well.”

If customers continue to experience pressure problems at their residence or business, please notify the City of Moberly. Discolored water, and a stronger-than-usual chlorine odor from the water may be evident during this time. Customers that experience discoloration should let the water run for a few minutes until the discoloration disappears.

ORIGINAL STORY: Moberly officials announced on Thursday that repairs to the water main are scheduled for Friday.

Officials warned that some residents will not have water service on Friday from approximately 8 am to 5 pm.
