Morgan County man charged with owing thousands to assisted living facility

A Morgan County man has been charged with misappropriation of funds of elderly nursing home residents after he was accused of not paying a nursing home.

According to the probable cause statement, Christopher Caldwell admitted his father into the Laurie Care Center in September. Caldwell signed paperwork indicating that he would assume sole responsibility in managing and providing financial affairs to the center fo the care of his father.

Officers said Caldwell was also supposed to apply for Medicaid, but he had not.

The center told officers they made numerous attempts to contact Caldwell but he never responded.

Laurie police said when they made contact with Caldwell, he claimed he was unemployed and living off his father’s income and living in the father’s house.

According to the probable cause statement, Caldwell owed $23,570.86 to the center.

Caldwell told officers he would make contact with the center and make arrangements to have the funds for his father deposited into his account.

The center said Caldwell failed to make payment arrangements.
