MODOT warns drivers to plan ahead as more winter weather approaches

The Missouri Department of Transportation is asking drivers to plan ahead as the potential for more winter weather approaches.

MODOT officials suggest that drivers check the department’s traveler information map if they must travel.

The map shows the road conditions, displays real-time traffic flow and provides views of traffic cameras at various locations.

“The storms we’ve experienced recently have been a little unpredictable, and road conditions can change quickly, so one of the ways you can get a good idea about what’s happening on Missouri highways is to check our Traveler Information Map, located at modot.org,” said MoDOT Central District Maintenance Engineer Jason Shafer.

Shafer also said staying home is the best plan but if drivers must head out they need to allow extra time for traveling and drive with caution.

MODOT crews will carefully monitor road conditions and treat and plow state-maintained bridges and overpasses as needed.

Officials warn that even a little precipitation can cause slippery roads, so drivers need to be alert.
