Freezing drizzle tonight, weekend wintry weather
TONIGHT: Freezing drizzle will increase overnight as temperatures drop to near 20 under cloudy skies. Winds out of the northeast from 13-17 mph will drop wind chills into the single digits by Saturday morning. A glaze of ice is possible by morning and untreated roads and elevated surfaces could be slick.
SATURDAY: Freezing drizzle will taper off in the morning and it will be mainly dry during the day except for spotty freezing drizzle. Temperatures will stay in the mid 20s with wind chills in the teens. Precipitation will increase during late afternoon, becoming likely Saturday night. Areas north of I-70 will have mainly snow with some freezing drizzle mixed in early in the night while south of I-70, it will be mainly freezing rain and sleet with some light snow by late in the night. Snowfall amounts up to an inch are expected north of HWY 50 with only a dusting possible farther south. 1-2 inches snowfall is expected near and just north of I-70 with 2-4 inches possible north of HWY 24. Ice accumulation from a glaze near I-70 to just over a tenth near I-44 through Saturday night.
EXTENDED: Snow will gradually end in the morning Sunday and it will remain cold but dry by the afternoon. Highs will stay in the 20s with lows Sunday night near 10. Temperatures will rise back above freezing by early next week as we reach the upper 30s Monday to the low 50s by Wednesday.
