Columbia woman accused of DWI, hitting pedestrian, fleeing deputies

UPDATE – 9:30 A.M.: Boone County deputies said they witnessed a 32-year-old woman hit a pedestrian near east Prathersville Road Wednesday night.

They said Elizabeth Copus of Columbia fled the area when deputies tried to pull her over.

The chase ended near Gregory Drive, where Copus was arrested.

Boone County officials told ABC 17 News the 47-year-old victim was conscious and responsive when he was taken to an area hospital.

Copus is facing charges of driving while intoxicated causing serious injury, resisting arrest and fleeing the scene of an accident.

Copus has bonded out of jail.

ORIGINAL: Deputies with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department tell ABC 17 News they were involved in a chase Wednesday night.

Authorities said the pursuit started after deputies tried to pull over a car for a traffic violation. It’s unclear at this time where the chase started and ended or if anyone was taken into custody.
