Columbia emergency crews called to battle fire on Larch Court
UPDATE 2/7: Columbia firefighters said the fire caused $250,000 in damages.
The investigation is continuing for the cause of the fire.
$250,000 in damages to the structure. The involved building is a two-story apartment building with a total of six units. Investigators are continuing the investigation and it is still considered active.
UPDATE 6:30 a.m.: The Columbia Fire Department was called to a residential structure fire at 1207 Larch Court around 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, fire officials said.
Officials said when crews first arrived, they saw heavy fire and smoke coming from both floors of the two-story apartment building.
Crews started aggressively fighting the fire, but shortly after, the commander at the scene called a second alarm asking for more assistance, officials said.
Officials said the fire was under control shortly after the second round of crews arrived.
Jerry Jenkins, assistant fire chief, said the apartment was believed to be vacant, but crews called Columbia Water and Light to make sure the power was off. Jenkins said Water and Light staff confirmed there was no power to the building.
Jenkins said there were no injuries reported from the fire.
All together, 12 Columbia fire units responded to the scene, Jenkins said. He said crews remained on scene after the fire was extinguished to make sure there weren’t any hidden hot spots.
Jenkins said the fire investigator was at the scene, but wasn’t able to determine the cause of the fire yet.
Jenkins said once the investigator finds the cause of the fire, an update will be released.
