Snow and freezing drizzle likely into the evening hours

TUESDAY: A Snow flurries are falling across Mid-Missouri this afternoon, as the first wave of winter weather tracks into the region. Temperatures are holding steady in the teens this afternoon and will struggle to climb into the 20s under cloudy skies. While snow flurries are occurring right now, we’ll begin to see light/moderate snow showers spread in from the west this afternoon north of I-70. Snow will be slow to build into the region, with most locations remaining snow free until this evening. Due to the northward track of the system, snowfall amounts have been lowered. It’s likely that most areas along and south of I-70 will see a dusting to 1 inch of snow, while those north of I-70 will see the potential for up to 2 inches of snow. Locations along and south of Highway 50 will also see the potential for a glaze of ice, as warmer air moves in above the surface. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for areas south of I-70 due to the combination of snow and ice that goes into effect at 2 PM until 6 AM tomorrow.

TONIGHT: As snowfall ends temperatures will drop towards 16 degrees by tomorrow morning. Skies will remain mostly cloudy with winds out of the northwest up to 11 mph creating feels like temperatures to drop near 0 degrees.

EXTENDED: Some Travel impacts can be expected to continue by Wednesday morning with any leftover ice and snow on the ground. Skies will begin to clear by Wednesday as high temperatures remain below average in the low 30s. Thursday brings nicer conditions to Mid-Missouri as we warm into the mid and upper 40s. This warm trend will be very short-lived as another system will begin to slowly track into Mid-Missouri by the weekend. A frontal boundary that will be west/east oriented will be slow to move through the region. As it will be tracking into Mid-Missouri, several upper level disturbances will ride the disturbance and bring a chance for some winter precipitation. Temperatures will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s through Sunday, before another warming trend.
