UPDATE: Student threatened to bring gun to Thomas Jefferson Middle School

UPDATE 1/30: Jefferson City police released more information about the possible threat made at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.

Police said the 14-year-old student was upset at several things and was sharing that frustration with another classmate.

Officers said the conversation was overheard and shared through multiple social media platforms.

Police said the threat had to do with bringing a gun to school. However, officers found no evidence that the student intended to carry out the threat.

Officers said they do not believe that anyone in the school community was in jeopardy of being harmed.

ORIGINAL STORY: According to Jefferson City Police, JCPD were made aware of a possible threat on Monday that was to be carried out at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.

Members of the Police Department’s Community Services Section along with JCPD Detectives immediately investigated the reports and had the 14-year-old suspect within three hours.

The 14-year-old was a student at TJMS and was detained for terroristic threats.

TJMS sent out the following statement:

“Dear TJMS families,

This afternoon, JCPS administration was made aware of a potentially serious situation involving TJMS. As student safety is of our utmost concern, we turned the situation over to the Jefferson City Police Department. We will provide additional information as it becomes available. Thank you.”

JCPD said that the case has been referred to the officials at the Prenger Family Center and that their aren’t any other suspects.
