Inmate accused of stabbing corrections officer with shank sentenced to additional years in prison

A Rolla man pleaded guilty to endangering a corrections employee on Friday in Callaway County.

Terrance Tipton, 26 was previously accused of endangering a corrections employee, endangering an inmate, committing violence against an employee of the Department of Corrections and possessing a prohibited article in the Department of Corrections.

Tipton admitted that in Dec. 2016, he spit on two corrections officers and a fellow inmate while he was incarcerated at the Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center.

Tipton also admitted to striking a corrections officer with a shank that he illegally possessed while at the institution. The officer suffered a minor cut to his wrist.

The judge sentenced Tipton to four years in prison on each of the three charges of endangering a corrections employee and inmate. He was sentenced to five years in prison for possessing the sharpened metal instrument and six years in prison for assaulting the corrections officer.

Tipton also pleaded guilty to committing violence against an employee of the DOC for an incident in Feb. 2017.

Tipton admitted striking a corrections officer in the abdomen with a food tray when the officer was attempting to serve Tipton his evening meal. The officer suffered minor injuries.

The judge sentenced Tipton to five years in prison for that offense.
