Man arrested after allegedly kidnapping mother and child, Maries County deputies say

Maries County deputies said they arrested a man early Saturday morning for allegedly kidnapping a mother and her child.

Deputies said they saw a vehicle pulled over on Highway 63 and Route AA near Vienna Saturday morning and went to contact the driver.

During the course of an investigation, deputies said they determined the female passenger had been assaulted. They further determined the victim and her child had been taken against their will, with a deadly weapon, from Springfield, Missouri.

Deputies said they arrested the driver, Michael J. Munson, 47, and took him to the Maries County Jail, where he is being held pending warrants.

Deputies said Munson is a convicted felon and has an extensive criminal history. They expect more felony charges to be issued Saturday night.
