Teen charged as adult in shooting that left a 17-year-old with serious injuries to the head

A teen has been charged as an adult in an October shooting that left a 17-year-old with serious injuries.

ABC17 previously reported that the shooting happened in the 4200 block of West Bethany Drive on Oct. 18. The victim was wounded by gunfire coming from outside the residence, according to deputies. They said a bullet went through a living room window and struck the teen in the head.

Court documents reveal that Demetrius Shaw was looking into a side window of a residence in the area right before the shooting.

Officers said they later found a gun in Shaw’s bag that matched to the shell casings found at the scene.

According to the Motion to Set Bond, it appears the shooting was in retaliation for a person cooperating with police in another homicide investigation.

Roger Johnson, the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, said Shaw is a substantial risk to the victims and the community.

Shaw has been charged with armed criminal action, assault, endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful use of a weapon.

Shaw had previously been adjudicated for burglary and unlawful use of a weapon.
