Man wanted for making a terrorist threat against Rep. Vicky Hartzler’s office

A man has been charged with making a terrorist threat against Rep. Vicky Hartzler’s office on Wednesday.

According to the probable cause statement, police were dispatched to reports of a threat made over the phone from Jeffery O’Laughlin.

O’Laughlin called a staff member and told her that he sent their Chief of Staff an email that was very serious and wanted something done about it. He was accused of saying “I expect to hear from the Chief of Staff today, and if not I will use gun powder and put some people in the grave if no one takes me serious or does anything. You better not ignore this and I mean it.”

One of the staff members told police that Hartzler’s office was evacuated and employees were sent home for the day.

Officers said they made contact with O’Laughlin who said he had a bio-mechanical transmitter in his filling and wanted Hartzler’s office to do something about it.

O’Laughlin told police that he had a right to use gunpowder and lead to defend himself.

According to the probable cause statement, O’Laughlin believed most staff members were in on the conspiracy and deserved to be shot.

Police said O’Laughlin made a similar threat to the State Supreme Court and threatened to use gunpowder and lead.

O’Laughlin’s wife told officers that he has several firearms.

A warrant has been issued for O’Laughlin’s arrest with a $50,000 bond.

ABC17 previously reported that O’Laughlin was charged with making a threat in Cole County when he told a man, “If it means blowing up buildings or coming in with an AR-15 then so be it.”
