Sedalia police arrest man after finding drugs, gun in SUV

Sedalia police arrested Zachary Smasal on Tuesday after officers performed a traffic stop on a SUV because it did not have a rear license plate.

According to the probable cause statement, when officers approached the car they could smell marijuana. Smasal admitted to smoking some earlier in the evening.

Police said they searched Smasal’s car and found marijuana, a pipe, hydrocodone, a vial with a white powdery residue and a gun.

Smasal admitted to officers that the vial they found typically contains oxycodone. He also admitted to not having a prescription for the hydrocodone.

According to the probable cause statement, Smasal is considered a flight risk because he has been arrested on prior occasions for failing to appear in court.

Smasal was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
