Cole County man accused of trying to pay bill with counterfeit money

Cole County deputies arrested Di-Brell Smith on Thursday after officers were dispatched to the 4300 block of Rainbow Drive in reference to a forgery incident.

According to the probable cause statement, Smith was attempting to pay his water bill with counterfeit money.

An employee for the Public Water District told officers that Smith provided them with 19 counterfeit one dollar bills to pay his bill.

Police said when they made contact with Smith, they found six additional counterfeit bills.

Smith claimed he received the bills from an individual he sold some of his belongings to.

Smith was charged with forgery.
