Winter weather advisory in effect for all of mid-Missouri

THURSDAY: Heading into work this morning expect temperatures in the 50s with rain increasing in our northwest counties. A cold front will move through in the morning dropping temperatures from the low 50s to below freezing by mid-afternoon. As the colder air runs into rain, it will change over to freezing rain, sleet, and then snow by the afternoon to evening. A glaze of ice is possible in areas, especially bridges and overpasses which will cool faster. With the chance of winter weather all of mid-Missouri is under a Winter Weather Advisory from 9 AM this morning until midnight tonight. Any moisture on the roadways will freeze by this afternoon. West to northwest winds will increase to 20 mph, gusting to 30 mph and producing wind chills in the low teens by evening.

TONIGHT: Freezing rain and snow will exit the area by 7 or 8 PM tonight in our southeastern counties. With winds out of the northwest up to 20 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph it will be a very cold night. Low temperatures will drop into the lower teens by Friday morning with wind chills as low as 7 below zero under clearing skies.

EXTENDED: The Arctic air will stick around through the weekend, dropping low temperatures into the single digits Saturday night with daytime highs only in the lower 20s. We are watching a couple fast moving areas of low pressure which will move through this weekend. The first of these “Clippers” will move through early Saturday but won’t have enough moisture to produce snow as it move into Mid-Missouri. The other which moves through Sunday afternoon could allow for some brief snow showers across Mid-Missouri with a possible dusting of snow.
