UPDATE 5:11 P.M.: An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday morning by the Boone County Medical Examiners Office.

UPDATE 4:48 P.M.: The coroner has confirmed that the victim is 21-year-old Cassandra L. White. She was a resident of the home and was the mother to an infant and a toddler.

The children were home at the time of the shooting, but were not injured.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Pettis County Sheriff’s Office and the Pettis County coroner are investigating the death of a Sedalia woman.

Sheriff Kevin Bond said the death happened at a home just north of Sedalia’s western city limits Tuesday night.

Deputies were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. after someone heard gunshots in the area of the Western View Estates Trailer Park on Oak Grove Lane. Deputies checked the area but said they did not find any suspicious activity.

Nearly two hours later, there was a call about a person with gunshot wounds at a home inside the trailer park.

A trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and personnel from the Pettis County Ambulance District assisted deputies at the scene.

As of Wednesday morning, deputies were still on scene.

The Sheriff’s Office did not provide information regarding injuries or possible suspect(s). ABC 17 News has a crew headed to the scene and will have an update on ABC 17 News at Noon.
