Caruthers family sues man accused of killing their son in May on Dawn Ridge Road

The father and mother of Cameron Caruthers filed a wrongful death lawsuit on Wednesday claiming that Ricky Gurley was reckless and careless during the shooting that killed their son.

ABC17 previously reported in May that Cameron Caruthers was killed after a deadly shooting on Dawn Ridge Road.

Ricky Gurley claimed he shot in self defense but according to the lawsuit, when Caruthers entered the residence he emptied his pockets and put his hands above his head and verbally told Gurley he was not armed.

Gurley is a convicted felon and not allowed to own a firearm but purchased the gun to aid him in his bond work and investigations, the lawsuit alleges.

Caruthers’ mother and father both claim that they have endured pain, suffering and loss of enjoyment in life since their son was killed.

According to the lawsuit, Gurley showed complete indifference and had no disregard for the safety of others. He was reckless, careless and negligent.

Caruthers’ family is looking for compensation for their damages. They ask for at least $25,000 for damages, relief and costs of legal actions.
