Man charged after being accused of waiving gun around, threatening to shoot

A man has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon after officers responded to a peace disturbance in the 700 block of Benson Street.

Police said when they arrived on scene, there was a large group of people surrounding the area.

Multiple witnesses reported that Shawn Briscoe had displayed a gun and threatened to shoot at least one person.

Officers said they were able to make contact with Briscoe who said he went over to the residence to find out who had broken into his house.

Briscoe denied showing or waving his gun and explained to police that his bedroom was entered and several items were tossed around.

Police said some of the witnesses was fearful of what Briscoe might do with the weapon.
