Mizzou WBB upsets South Carolina for the second straight year

The No. 15 Mizzou women’s basketball team has upset No. 4 South Carolina for the second consecutive year. The Tigers beat the Gamecocks 83-74 on Sunday afternoon at Mizzou Arena. MU moves to 14-2 overall and 2-1 in the SEC.

Sophie Cunningham was back in the starting lineup after missing a game with a right knee sprain. She finished with a game-high 27 points on 9-10 shooting. Cierra Porter finished with 11 points and three rebounds. Sophomore Amber Smith also had a big game. She had 20 points and 12 rebounds. Mizzou shot 8-13 from three-point range.

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley was ejected from the game in the fourth quarter after picking up her second technical foul. MU held the Gamecocks’ leading scoring A’ja Wilson to a season-low eight points. She fouled out in the fourth quarter.

South Carolina has lost only six games the past two seasons – two of them are to Mizzou in Columbia, Mo. The Gamecocks are the defending national champions.
