Mizzou football hires Derek Dooley as offensive coordinator
Barry Odom and Mizzou football hired former Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley as the next offensive coordinator for the Tigers.
“I’m excited for our football program, Derek brings tremendous energy, knowledge and experience to our staff,” said Odom. “He will do a great job of mentoring our student-athletes in all areas of their lives, and I know he will add great benefit and loyalty to our staff room with his experiences he’s gained over his career. His football knowledge and offensive beliefs are in line with what will make Mizzou very successful.”
Dooley has more than 20 years of collegiate and NFL coaching experience. Mizzou will release the full details of his contract once it has been cleared with human resources.
Dooley will also take over quarterback coach duties.
Dooley was the head coach of of the Volunteers from 2010 to 2012 earning a bowl bid in his first season. In 2012, the Volunteers had the second most yards and fourth most points scored in Tennessee history. Dooley held a 15-21 record with the Vols.
For the last five seasons, Dooley has been a wide receivers coach for the Dallas Cowboys working with receivers such as Dez Bryant and Cole Beasley.
Dooley served as the head coach at Louisiana Tech from 2007 to 2009 before being hired at Tennessee while also serving as the athletic director at LA Tech. Dooley was also the tight ends coach for the Miami Dolphins from 2005 to 2006 under current Alabama head coach Nick Saban.
Odom previously hired Brad Davis and Vernon Hagreaves III as the team’s next offensive line coach and inside linebackers coach. Odom can still hire one more assistant due to a rule passed by the NCAA in 2017 allowing teams to carry 10 assistants.
