Woman charged with drug trafficking after K-9 unit finds more than 100 grams of methamphetamine

A woman was charged in Cooper County with trafficking drugs after deputies found a large amount of methamphetamine in a car.

According to the probable cause statement, deputies saw a Ford Taurus fail to stop at a stop sign coming off of Interstate 70.

Deputies said they made contact with Cynthia Gibler-O’Brien, who was overly talkative and explained to officers she was traveling from Columbia to Sedalia.

Officers said they discovered O’Brien had a warrant out of Illinois for methamphetamine possession.

Deputies said they asked O’Brien for permission to search her car and she got defensive. A K-9 unit was deployed and alerted officers to possible drugs in the car.

Officers said they found 116 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

According to the probable cause statement, O’Brien is known to traffic in narcotics and uses her contacts to hide her from warrant or summons service.

O’Brien was also charged with delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to stop at a stop sign.
