Web Extra: Sophie Cunningham ‘good to go’ for season opener

COLUMBIA – The (16) Mizzou women’s basketball team looks to begin its road to a third straight NCAA tournament appearance Friday against Western Kentucky in the Hawkeye Challange in Iowa.

Head coach Robin Pingeton and guard Sophie Cunningham both said Cunningham is healthy enough to play. She started in Monday’s exhibition game against McKendree. Cunningham previously injured her wrist on Nov. 2 against Southwest Baptist when an opposing player tripped her going to the basket. Cunningham fell on her right wrist, and she did not return to the game.

Pingeton said this is the healthiest the team has been, especially after injuries to key players like Jordan Frericks plagued the team last season.

Tip off between Mizzou and Western Kentucky Friday, Nov. 10 is at 2:30 p.m.
