2018 Missouri session gets underway today

Missouri lawmakers congregate at the Capitol to start the 2018 legislative session at noon on Wednesday.

The Republican-led 99th General Assembly passed some long-sought priorities last year with the help of new GOP Gov. Eric Greitens. Despite some party fighting, Republicans look to make additional progress on their social and fiscal issues in this second regular session.

Some of the issues expected to dominate the session include: tax cuts, abortion, tort limits, so-called right-to-work legislation and possible answers to the opioid crisis. Missouri is the only state without a statewide prescription drug monitoring program, although some cities including Columbia and Jefferson City have implemented some form of PDMPs.
