Dangerous Cold Rings in New Year

TODAY: Temperatures will remain in the single digits today with wind chills near -15. Extra layers will be needed out the door for any New Year’s Festivities.

TONIGHT: A wind chill warning will begin at 6pm tonight, with wind chills dipping to near -25 degrees. Frostbite occurs in as little as 10 minutes on exposed skin with those types of wind chills. It is highly advised that any celebration remains inside as you bring in the New Year. Actual low temperatures will be near -6 degrees.

NEW YEAR’S DAY : We will see another bitterly cold day to begin the New Year. It will at least be sunny, but highs will only reach middle to upper single digits. Lows will again drop below zero for most of our area Monday night. Wind chills will not be as bad as tonight, but will still feel like -15.

EXTENDED: We will exit the dangerously cold temperatures toward the middle of the week, but will still remain below average for this time of year. We are continuing to watch another cold front come through the area Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Frontal passage looks to remain dry at this point, but will dip us back into the low 20s for day time highs on Thursday. We are continuing to monitor the light at the end of the tunnel of temperatures finally nearing the freezing point headed into next weekend.
