Mid-Missouri road crews prepare for winter weather
UPDATE: 10 p.m.: Columbia Public Works has brought in a second full plow crew and mid-Missouri continues to experience winter conditions.
The second crew came in at 7 p.m. to replace the day shift. Crews will continue treating designated snow routes and drizzle and light snow continues to fall.
The crews are focusing on hills, intersections and curves and will monitor weather conditions throughout the night.
Air temperature is predicted to remain below freezing throughout the night, meaning untreated roads and surfaces will likely freeze. If precipitation continues through the early morning hours, Columbia Public Works crews will start a more aggressive salt treatment on the designated snow routes.
Travel is not advised unless necessary.
ORIGINAL STORY: ABC 17 News reached out to several road crews to find out what crews are doing to prepare for winter weather.
MoDOT Central said they have crews out pre-treating roads. There’s still have some salt leftover on roads from earlier this week, and they believe that will also help treat roads.
Boone County Public Works will start pre-treating roads around 11:00 a.m. They also still have leftover salt on the roads from earlier this week they believe will help.
Jefferson City Public Works said they are monitoring the weather and have crews on standby.
