Slight warmer end to the week, but still bitterly cold

TODAY: It’s a bitterly cold start to the morning, with temperatures hovering near 10 degrees under overcast skies. with winds out of the southeast up to 12 mph, wind chill readings are nearly 5 below zero for a good portion of Mid-Missouri. Not as cold as yesterday, but still unseasonably cool for this time of the year. We’ll see slightly “warmer” conditions today, with highs topping out in the lower 20s through the day and wind chill readings remaining in the teens.

TONIGHT: Thanks to partly cloudy skies and southerly winds through the day, our lows will only bottom out near 15 degrees. Despite this, it will still feel frigid outside with wind chill readings remaining in the single digits. We’ll begin to see our winds slowly shift around out of the west and northwest up to 9 mph.

EXTENDED: Friday will be the “warmer” day as we reach the upper 20s to low 30s. A clipper system will track near the Iowa/Missouri border and could bring a few flurries to far northern Missouri, but most areas should remain snow free. Another surge of arctic air moves in for the weekend, keeping us in the low to mid teens for highs Saturday, dropping to to near zero Saturday night under mostly cloudy skies. There is another chance of light snow for all of Mid-Missouri Sunday with light accumulation possible as high temperatures only reach near 10 degrees. As we ring in 2018, temperatures will be near 0, dropping as low as 7 below zero by Monday morning. The arctic air hangs around much of next week with sub-freezing temperatures possible through next Wednesday. Watch ABC17 News for the newest forecast and check back here for updates.
