Missouri-born adoptees will have opportunity to get access to birth certificate information

Adoptees who were born in Missouri will have the opportunity to get access to their birth certificate information in January.

The Missouri Adoptee Rights Act will take effect on Tuesday and may give Missouri-born adoptees, ages 18 and older, access to a copy of their original birth certificate.

Officials said the new law could affect hundreds of thousands of adult adoptees.

On Oct. 1, the Department of Health and Senior Services began accepting applications from Missouri-born adoptees who wanted to request a copy of their original birth certificate.

Nonprofit G’s Adoption Registry will be hosting an event at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City starting on Sunday and going to Tuesday for adopted adults to start getting their information.
