Phelps County Sheriff’s department investigates shooting that killed Rolla woman

The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department said it’s investigating a shooting that killed a woman from Rolla Saturday.

Sheriff Richard Lisenbe said in a news release that deputies responded to the shooting around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The victim, Tayna Elaine Johnson, 34, of Rolla, was taken to Phelps County Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound, Lisenbe said.

Lisenbe said Johnson was later flown to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead just after 8 p.m.

Lisenbe said his department initiated a joint investigation with Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Phelps County Sheriff’s Department asked that if anyone has information about the shooting to call detective George Arnold at 573-426-3860, or to remain anonymous, call 573-426-2936.

Lisenbe said an autopsy for Johnson is scheduled Dec. 26.
