Rep. Vicky Hartzler praises House passage of tax bill

Rep. Vicky Hartzler, R-Mo., is praising today’s House passage of the tax bill as “a Christmas present for American families.”

Democrats say three provisions in the Republican $1.5 trillion tax bill violate Senate rules and will likely be removed before that chamber votes on the measure. The House approved the legislation Tuesday. But this means the House will have to vote again on the legislation once it’s been amended and approved by the Senate. Senate passage was expected Tuesday night or early Wednesday.

Republicans still need to convince the majority of nation this tax package is as good as they say.

According to a CNN poll, opposition to the tax package has grown 10 points since early November.

Some 55 percent of the country now oppose it, with only 33 percent in favor of the new tax code.

Rep. Hartzler says the bill is especially important to Missouri families and points out that it doubles the child tax credit to $2000 and lowers the tax rate for every income level.

The representative also says it’s a good deal for students and young professionals. She told ABC 17 News, “I was very pleased that the final version of the bill does keep and retain that graduate student waiver tuition exemption, as well as, a provision to be able to deduct your student loan interest. Those were things that I know are important to a lot of families in Missouri. They’re important to me.” >

Not a single Democrat voted for the tax bill. Before it even gets a vote in the Senate, Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill tweeted a quote from the newest Star Wars movie: “me to my r colleagues and president trump when they say the tax bill is all about working families. “Every word of what you just said is wrong”. #lastjedi”
