Man charged with assault after gouging eye of Campus Bar and Grill employee, hitting MUPD officer

A man has been charged with two counts of assault after gouging the eye of a Campus Bar and Grill employee and assaulting a police officer.

On Dec. 15 at 394 South Ninth Street, other wise known as Campus Bar and Grill, Darrell Hairston was kicked out for assaulting an employee. According to the probable cause statement, Hairston kept walking into the kitchen after being told by the employee repeatedly to leave.

When the employee went to escort Hairston out, Hairston grabbed the employee by the neck and gouged the employee’s right eye with his thumb.

A small amount of blood could be seen in the corner of the employee’s eye.

Bouncers flagged down an officer, who tried escorting Hairston away from the front of the bar. Hairston hit the officer with a closed fist on the left side of her face.

While in custody at the University of Missouri Police Department, Hairston spit and urinated on the floor of the cell.
