Columbia man arrested after leading highway patrol on high-speed chase, troopers say

A Columbia man faces several charges after leading highway patrol troopers on a chase and crashing into road barrier, injuring two other passengers, troopers said.

Troopers said they tried to stop a car for speeding around 11 a.m. Sunday on Highway 40, but soon after, they found themselves in a pursuit near the Midway Travel Plaza.

Troopers said the car left Highway 40 and continued onto I-70, heading toward Columbia.

A few miles later, the car got off I-70 at the Stadium Boulevard exit and attempted to continue north on Stadium Boulevard, but crashed into a jersey barrier at the top of the exit ramp, troopers said.

Troopers said they found three people in the car. The driver, Jerred Coulibaly, 22, of Columbia, was taken into custody, and the two other passengers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to troopers.

Coulibaly is facing possible charges of resisting arrest, driving with a revoked license, careless and imprudent driving resulting in a crash and exceeding the speed limit 26 miles over the posted speed limit.
