Troopers arrest Kansas City man after chase on Highway 63

UPDATE 12/13: Duong has been charged with resisting arrest creating a substantial risk.

According to the probable cause statement, troopers recorded Duong driving 101 mph before they initiated the chase.

Troopers said during the chase Duong was driving over 120 mph and nearly struck at least two other vehicles.

Duong told troopers he attempted to run from officers because he did not want a ticket.

UPDATE: According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 31-year-old Jimmy Duong was the man behind the wheel.

The Kansas City man faces possible charges that include resisting arrest, exceeding the posted speed limit by 31 mile per hour, and careless and imprudent driving.

As of Tuesday night, he was in the Boone County Jail and is expected to appear in court Wednesday.

ORIGINAL: Troopers arrested one man on Tuesday afternoon after a chase on Highway 63.

Officers said the chase started near Ashland and ended when the suspect tried to get off on the Broadway exit and got caught in traffic.

Troopers said they deployed spike strips during the chase.

Officers are unsure why the man initially ran. Troopers searched the man’s vehicle and did not find anything suspicious.

The investigation is on-going.
