Man charged with crashing into MODOT property, leaving scene of crash

A man has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash after troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving MODOT property on U.S. 63 near some sod farms.

According to the probable cause statement, troopers found a Toyota Celica on the shoulder of U.S. 63 with no driver.

Troopers said a MODOT employee found a license plate that matched the car near a damaged yield sign.

Troopers said the crash happened when the driver traveled onto the de-acceleration lane and struck a yield sign. The driver came to a controlled stop and left the scene.

Officers said they found a phone number and a Mexico passport for Diego Jimenez inside of the car.

Troopers said they contacted Jimenez who admitted to driving the car and running away from the scene.

Officers said Jimenez did not have a valid license and proof of insurance at the time of the crash.

Jimenez was also charged with operating a motor vehicle on a highway without a valid license and operating a car owned by another, knowing owner of vehicle has not maintained financial responsibility.
