Rolling Hills Road temporarily closes for car fire, highway patrol investigating

STORY: The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating what led to a car fire and its missing driver in east Columbia Tuesday.

Emergency crews responded to Rolling Hills Road and East Broadway around 6 p.m. for the fire.

When they arrived, responders could not locate the driver.

The road was temporarily shut down while crews extinguished the blaze and searched for the vehicle’s occupant.

ABC 17 News is told the investigation will continue under the highway patrol.

UPDATE 6:46 p.m. The fire has been extinguished.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating.

ORIGINAL STORY – 6:40 p.m. Emergency crews have closed Rolling Hills Road by East Broadway in Columbia.

Crews were called out to a vehicle fire just before 6 p.m.

When they arrived, they could not find the driver.

A search is underway for the motorist.

The car is still smoking.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.
